Thirubalasakhyam (Pontifical Association of the Holy Childhood) is the Catholic Children’s International Association of children who have not received first Holy Communion. The aim of the organisation is to mould the religious and spiritual life of the growing children and to instill Christian values and wisdom in them. Bishop Charles D Forbin Janson in France established holy Childhood in 1843. The Association, which encourages the children through prayer and little works of mercy, was declared as a Pontifical Association on April 11, 1922. The second Sunday of February has been observed as Holy childhood Day all over the world.
Children helping children
“Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these” – Mathew 25:45
Holy Childhood proposes children to grow in wisdom and stature in favour with God and man like the Jesus. Holy Childhood aims at making our children equipped with prudence and wisdom to manage the challenges in the modern world.
The children from Pre-school to Year 3 gather together at the Church on every fourth Sunday 4:45 pm to 5:30 pm prior to the Holy Mass. The activities include sessions to learn about Jesus, His words, saints, moral and spiritual values and virtues, teaching children devotional songs, Holy Mass and daily prayers. Sessions are conducted using audio visual aids and children’s literature. Our young children are encouraged to join with the Catholic Church in its apostolic activities, missionary work and prayers, and thus to become the dear children of Christ.
“Train up a child in the way he should go; when he is old, he will not depart from it”- Proverbs 22:6
